Sightings 12/5/16

Highlights today:
Garganey: 2 new birds in, at Pilning wetland and Planet Chew, Herriott's.
Red Kite: Singles at Alveston, Severnside and Bishop Sutton.
Marsh Harrier: 1 new migrant over Walton Down 9am plus 2 sightings of the resident? bird at Planet Chew around mid-day.
Osprey: 1 past the Oldbury coast this morning.
Corncrake: 1 heard at Wharf Lane barns, Portbury Wharf around 7am but no further reports after the initial discovery.
Crane: 6+ flyovers at Cribbs Causeway 3pm to north.
Turtle Dove: The New Passage bird still present but elusive at times. Nigel Tucker video: HERE.

Ringed Plover/Dunlin: Large influx at Severnside, they could drag in a nice wader with them.


Stockwood (Bristol):
Open Space: 4 Chiffchaff, 8 Blackcap, 1 Song Thrush.

Nettleton:
4 Red-legged Partridge, 1 Buzzard, 1 Green Woodpecker, 12 Skylark, 2 Long-tailed Tit, 18 Chiffchaff, 2 Grey Wagtail, 9 Greenfinch, 5 Linnet, 11 Yellowhammer of note.

Horton:
1 Tree Pipit, 2 Corn Bunting.

High Littleton:
Greyfield Wood: 1 Buzzard, 1 Green Woodpecker, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Coal Tit, 5 Chiffchaff, 3 Song Thrush, 2 Spotted Flycatcher.

Oldbury Power Station:
1 flyover Osprey 7am (Pete Hazelwood).

Alveston:
1 flyover Red Kite mid-afternoon (Morris Benson).

Almondsbury:
Lower Knole Farm: 1 Cuckoo.

Cribbs Causeway:
Wild Place Project: 6 flyover Crane 3pm to north (Wayne Hatch). Birds viewed from WPP but actually were over the Easter Compton landscape.

New Passage-Northwick:
Red Kite: 1 flyover to south-east mid-afternoon (Paul Bowerman, John Martin).
Turtle Dove: Still present around the Glen and gardens but elusive at times.

1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Raven, 1 Coal Tit.

Portbury Dock:
2 Grey Plover, 2 Whimbrel, 4 Blackcap, 7 Whitethroat, 1 Sedge Warbler, 20 Reed Warbler, 1 Wheatear, 1 Reed Bunting.

Portbury Wharf:
Wharf Lane: 1 Corncrake heard in field nest to the barns first thing this morning, south side of the lane (Steve Beck). No further reports since the initial discovery,

1 flyover Marsh Harrier 9am to north (Andrew Waygood).

Clevedon coast:
Wain's Hill-Yeo Est: 40 Shelduck, 1 Tufted Duck, 2 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 4 Oystercatcher, 10 Ringed Plover, 1 Grey Plover, 6 Lapwing, 140 Dunlin, 34 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 3 Redshank, 1 BH Gull, 10 LBB Gull, 12 Herring Gull, 1 Cuckoo, 20 Swallow to NE, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 8 Reed Warbler, 1 Wheatear, 1 Rock Pipit.

2 Canada Goose, 5 Tufted Duck, 21 Mallard + 4 broods, 7 Little Grebe, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Green Woodpecker, 2 Jay, 1 Raven, 1 Long-tailed Tit, 5 Chiffchaff, 2 Grey Wagtail.

Planet Chew:
Marsh Harrier: 2 sightings, presumably the same bird at Stratford side 12.10pm and 1pm (Andy Davis, Ian Stapp). Several Marsh Harrier sightings along the Stratford-Moreton side recently.
