14-01-21 - Thursday - Goosanders

Sunshine at last!  Another wet morning but clearing around noon to a fine afternoon with high cloud and a moderate NW wind.  Quite mild - 10°C.

Goosanders and Peregrines were the best birds on a quiet day

  

Goosander on the Congresbury Yeo (Nigel Kendall)

BRISTOL

Bedminster:

2 Woodpigeon, 52 Herring Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, 6 Black-headed Gull, Peregrine (flying north at 15.15), Magpie, 3 Carrion Crow, 2 Blue Tit (courtship), 18 Starling, 1 Pied Wagtail, 6 House Sparrow, 2 Goldfinch.

Cumberland Basin:

10 Black-headed Gull, 1 Peregrine, 2 Redwing.

Narroways Millennium Green (St Werburghs):

Feral Pigeon, Woodpigeon, Herring Gull, Magpie, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Robin.

Westbury-on-Trym:

Dipper, Grey Wagtail.

SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Great Spotted Woodpecker at Itchington (Heather England)

Itchington - garden highlights:

2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker

NORTH SOMERSET

Portishead:

Redcliffe Bay:  Peregrine soaring high, also a Kestrel.

High Street:  Sparrowhawk.

Boating lake:  35 Canada Goose, "George" the Greylag Goose, 6 Mute Swan, 135+ Mallard, 16 Tufted Duck, 6 Moorhen, 1 Curlew (on the beach), 130+ BH Gull, Pied Wagtails.

Waders at Dowlaid: Lapwings, Redshanks, and that looks like a Dunlin  towards the left (Nigel Kendall)

Clevedon-Yeo:

Tesco's car park: singing Mistle Thrush - a harbinger of spring.

Blind Yeo:  8 Goosander (1 m.)

Dowlais: 31 Lapwing, 22 Redshank. Dunlin.

1 Goosander, 1 Grey Heron, 3 Little Egret, 1 Buzzard, 3 Stonechat
