Sightings 1/5/16

New birds today were 2 Black Tern (Planet Chew) and a Nightingale (Kingston Seymour).
It's turning warmer next week with a southerly airflow which should bring in some good stuff.


Stockwood (Bristol):
Open Space: 1 Grey Heron, 2 Green Woodpecker, 1 Raven, 2 Swallow, 6 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 4 Whitethroat, 4 Song Thrush, 6 Greenfinch, 3 Bullfinch.

Eastfield Park (Bristol):
1 Whitethroat.

Tortworth Lake:
2 Mute Swan, 6 Mallard (18 ducklings in 2 broods), 19 Tufted Duck, 3 Little Grebe, 25 Coot, 1 Buzzard.
1 redhead Smew also reported. Very late for this species in our area but also possibly the long-staying Chipping Sodbury bird last seen 5 April?
Please could the observer send in a description or some supporting words, it's not a record we'd like to see lost...Thanks.

Codrington:
2 Greylag Goose.

Wick:

Westerleigh:
1 Little Egret again.

Ringing sessions 29/30 April: 54 birds processed, mostly warblers. Garden Warbler and Grey Wagtail both patch ringing ticks.

Tesco Pool: 1 Grey Heron, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Reed Warbler.

Portbury Dock:
6 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 3 Common Sandpiper, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Wheatear, 3 Rock Pipit, 6 Linnet.

Portbury Wharf:
2 Wigeon still, 1 Oystercatcher, 8 Whimbrel, 2 LBB Gull nest prospecting, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Whitethroat.

Walton Common:
1 female Pied Flycatcher (Howard Taffs), top of the quarry again (one here 26 April).
Other stuff, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Buzzard, 1 Hobby, 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 1 Mistle Thrush.

Walton Moor:
3 Buzzard, 6 Swallow, 1 Sedge Warbler.

Kingston Seymour:
Bullock's Cafe morning: 1 Nightingale (Howard Taffs), our first of the season. No sign of the bird after mid-day.

Clevedon coast:
Dowlais-Kenn Est morning: 3 Little Egret, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Ringed Plover, 5 Lapwing, 80 Dunlin, 20 Whimbrel, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Redshank, 1 Tree Pipit.
Swallow and Wheatear conspicuous by their absence.

CV Farm-Yeo Est evening: 30 Whimbrel, 1 Grasshopper Warbler, 1 Redstart.

Sand Pt:
1 Peregrine, 10 Whimbrel, 1 dp Arctic Skua up 7.35am, 1 Garden Warbler, 1 Grasshopper Warbler, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 3 Tree Pipit, 2 Siskin, 3 Redpoll.

Blagdon Lake:
2 Egyptian Goose, 2 Hobby, 4 Common Sandpiper.

Planet Chew:
Red Kite: 2 birds through today.
Black Tern: 2 birds at Stratford end.
