Sightings 4/5/16

4/5/16 Cuckoo at New Passage (David Hanks)
about 10 birds reported in Avon 14-30 April

New birds today were a drake Red-crested Pochard at Planet Chew and 3 Red Kite. One or two Siskin continue to be reported...locally quite good for Avon in May.

Stockwood (Bristol):
Open Space: 1 Buzzard, 9 Chiffchaff, 12 Blackcap, 5 Whitethroat, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Greenfinch, 4 Goldfinch, 2 Bullfinch.

Stoke Park (Bristol):
Duchess Pond: 1 Whinchat.

Hanham (Bristol):
Chequers Pub: 9 Chiffchaff, 8 Blackcap.

Henbury (Bristol):
Avon Riding Centre: 2 Stock Dove.

Oldbury Power Station:
1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Short-eared Owl again, L3.

Aust Warth:
1 Little Egret, 2 Whinchat, 2 Wheatear.

1 Pintail, 11 Tufted Duck, 3 Little Egret, 1 Hobby, 1 Peregrine, 20 Oystercatcher, 6 Little Ringed Plover, 4 Ringed Plover, 50 Dunlin, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 7 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Cuckoo, 6 Raven, 1 Grasshopper Warbler still, 1 Whinchat, 3 Wheatear, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Grey Wagtail, 3 White Wagtail, 1 Siskin.

2 Peregrine, 12 Ringed Plover, 1 Sanderling, 30 Dunlin, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 5 Whimbrel, 7 BH Gull, 1 Cetti's Warbler.

Portishead:
Marina: 1 Whimbrel (estuary), 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Linnet.
Down Rd: 1 Blackcap, 2 Siskin, garden.
Battery Pt: 5 Purple Sandpiper.
Last chance to see these birds over the next week or so until autumn.

Walton Castle:
1 Cuckoo 8am.

Walton Common:
1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Buzzard, 1 Cuckoo, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 5 Jay, 7 Chiffchaff, 4 Blackcap,  6 Blackbird, 2 Song Thrush.

Clapton-Weston Moor:
1 Hobby, 3 Cetti's Warbler, 4 Whinchat, 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Wheatear.

Tickenham:
1 Red Kite on the deck and also following the plough 11am (Andy Waygood).

Kenn:
1 flyover Red Kite 12.35pm (Steve Curtis).

Yatton:
Wemberham Lane: 1 Buzzard, single Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler, 1 Siskin.

Clevedon coast:
Yeo Est end: 50 Shelduck, 3 Little Egret, 4 Oystercatcher, 2 Lapwing, 19 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 30 Redshank, 3 Swift, 5 Skylark, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Whitethroat, 15 Sedge Warbler, 11 Reed Warbler, 1 Grasshopper Warbler, 1 Whinchat, 2 Wheatear, 12 Linnet, 3 Reed Bunting.

Uphill-Weston STW:
4 Whimbrel, 7 Swift, 1 Cuckoo, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 5 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Garden Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 18 Whitethroat, 1 Grasshopper Warbler, 2 Whinchat, 3 Wheatear.

Saltford-Bath:
Cycle Track: 1 Buzzard, 3 Green Woodpecker, 2 Coal Tit, 5 Long-tailed Tit, 7 Chiffchaff, 6 Blackcap, 1 Grey Wagtail of note.

Barrow Tanks:
1 Little Egret, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin, 15 Common Sandpiper, 4+ Raven, 4 Chiffchaff, 4 Blackcap, 3 Whitethroat, 1 Wheatear.

Blagdon Lake:
2 Hobby, 1 Cuckoo, 1 Otter (Top End, evening).

Planet Chew:
Red-crested Pochard: 1 drake new in at Villice (Dave Nevitt).
Red Kite: 1 flyover 12.25pm (Andy Davis, Ian Stapp).
Other stuff, 2 Barnacle Goose, 22 Shelduck, 7 Buzzard, 2 Hobby, 1 Peregrine, 3 Dunlin, 5 Common Sandpiper, 2 Herring Gull still, 1 Cuckoo, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, 5 Blackcap, 3 Garden Warbler, 2 Song Thrush, 1 singing Whinchat (HG Pool), 1 Wheatear, 1 White Wagtail, 1 Reed Bunting.
Fewer Hirundines around the lake today. Reed Warbler now present en masse.
