25th August '17 Friday - Green Sand

Bright start, then clouded over, then very bright hot and humid (but nobody complaining)

Oldbury Power Station:
A Whinchat on the common at yacht club, 2 Redstart (lagoon 1), 2 Wheatear, a Grey Wagtail by jetty, and a Garden Warbler on main rhine
2 Whinchat, 3 Wheatear,  3 Blackcap, 7 Whitethroat, 7 Willow Warbler, 1 Garden Warbler, 8 Chiffchaff, 73 Dunlin, 70 Ringed Plover, 30 Redshank, 2 Little Egret, 40 Turnstone

New Passage/Northwick Warth:
High tide and falling tide up to 1 p.m. 9 Dabchick, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 95 Canada Goose, 3 Mute Swan, 45 Mallard, Teal (I didn't find the Garganey but one has been reported today), 3 Kestrel, 11 Coot, 4 Moorhen, 57 Oystercatcher, 250 Ringed Plover, 10 Lapwing, 68 Dunlin, 130 Black-tailed Godwit, 27 Curlew - probably far more, lots of Redshank, 3 Greenshank, 3-4 Green Sandpiper, 1 Kingfisher, Swallows,  House Martins and Sand Martins, 32 Yellow Wagtails at 1 p.m. (fewer were reported in early morning, perhaps coming in?), 100 Starling
Evening 23+ Yellow Wagtail to roost, Hobby scattered pre roost hirundines, 2 Garganey

am: 3 Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Common Whitethroat, 11 Chiffchaff, 3 Common Redstart1 Spotted Flycatcher, 60 mix Linnet/Goldfinch.
pm: 3 Whinchat, 1 Whitethroat, 5 Redstart, Jay, Grey Heron, Kestrel, 40+ Goldfinch,Willow Warbler, House Martins and Swallows
A pair of Hobbys.

Wick Golden Valley:
3 Little Grebe, 1 Peregrine, 2 Coot, 2 Green Woodpecker, 12 LBB Gull, 2 Mute Swan, 12 Mallard, 
2 Buzzard, 12 Swallow, 3 Bullfinch, 6 Long-tailed Tit, several Blue and Great Tit, 1 Nuthatch.

25-8-17 Long-tailed Tit in Portishead garden (David Gale)

A small Starling roost has formed in the reed bed at Stowell's factory. Seen three times this week. 24/08, 500 Starlings plus one unsuccessful Sparrowhawk.

Count of at least 40 Jackdaw on the roof of the former St Saviour's Church in W-s-M this evening.

Herriot's lake side of the road 2 1st winter Sandwich Tern, 1 female Marsh Harrier 3 Great White Egret. Pool side of the road 2 Green Sandpiper and 1 Great White Egret.
15 Green Sandpipers (never seen that many in a single flock at Chew before), 1 Ruff,  1 Dunlin,
6 Lapwing 1 Little Egret (Rich Andrews)
