On a related topic we are carrying out an Avon Rookery Survey this year for the first time since 2015/16. The Survey has normally been carried out every five years but was interrupted by the pandemic. The Survey is based on the 10km grid squares and we have made good progress in allocating squares. However, there are still some squares/parts of squares that are not yet allocated and we would be extremely grateful to anyone who could take one of these on. The Survey runs from mid-March to mid-April and aims to review the status of Rookeries recorded in the last Survey in 2015/16 and log any new Rookeries that have been established since then. Areas where coverage is still required include –

ST36 – Weston-s-Mare

ST45 – Winscombe, Burrington etc but only that part in N Somerset - so only c24 sq Km

ST46 – Yatton/Kenn Moor, Congresbury - the western half of square only.

ST65 – North of Midsomer Norton – only that part of square (c 50sq km) which is in BANeS.

ST67 – West Bristol to Pucklechurch.

ST69/ST79 – North of Thornbury but only that part in South Gloucestershire (c 65sq km)

If you are interested please contact Lois Pryce, loisapryce@gmail.com, who will be able to help.
