Portbury Wharf:
1 Osprey seen over the North Pool of Portbury Wharf NR. At around 13.00 all the adult Lesser-black Backed Gulls nesting on the island rose up en masse in a very agitated state. Flying above them was a large, long-winged raptor with a highly distinctive flight silhouette. Its wings were narrow with a long 'hand' of four dark 'fingers'. When gliding its wings were angled with the carpals held forward. It also flew with arched wings and drooping 'hands' which gave it a gull-like appearance. Its tail was short, square-cut with fine cross-barring and a darker trailing band. Its upperparts were grey-brown and underparts white with black greater coverts. A faint breast band was just discernible. After 10 minutes the bird gained height and eventually drifted West towards Portishead,.
