26th August '17 Saturday - Spotted Fly

Weather  - A good day.

Tree Pipit, Whinchat, Redstart,  Wheatear,  Spotted Flycatcher, Great White Egret, Black Tern.


BRISTOL

Eastville Park:

One Grey Heron, a Dipper briefly on the river and 4 Spotted Flycatcher in the park.

Peregrine in situ on the spire again.

Knowle:

A good selection of garden visitors  - best 5 Coal Tit

SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE


Oldbury Power Station:

A Lesser Whitethroat, and the juv male Redstart still in place on Lagoon 1
A Tree Pipit left Lagoon 2 and headed downstream, and  a Black-tailed Godwit, an adult male Redstart and a Winchat at Shepperdine, plus the Peregrine pair have returned to the towers.

Mangotsfield:

30 Goldfinch feeding on plant seeds at Pomphrey Hill.

Almondsbury:

A Goldcrest and 2 Chiffchaff in the garden today.

New Passage/Northwick Warth:

90+ Black-tailed Godwit, one each of Knot and Ruff (juv), 2 each of Green Sandpiper, and Greenshank, 1 Juv Common Gull, another Swift went through, one Kingfisher and 15+ each of Blackcap and Yellow Wagtail (YW count went up to 28+ late pm)

Hanham:
A 38 species walk around the River Avon area. Highlights - Kingfisher, Green and Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Coal Tit, 13 Swallow, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 3 Blackcap, a Whitethroat, and a Spotted Flycatcher


Chipping Sodbury Common:
One Kestrel, a number of Redstart, about a dozen Whinchat, a number of Linnet and large flock of Goldfinch.



NORTH SOMERSET:

Clevedon-Yeo:

6 Mute Swan, 2 Canada Goose, 55 Shelduck (Mostly juvs/imms, no returning adult migrants yet), 90+ Mallard, 15 Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, a Buzzard (a very dark individual), 9 Oystercatcher, only 18 Ringed Plover, 2 Whimbrel, 125 Curlew, 8 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Turnstone, 65 Dunlin (All juv/imm now), 2 female Ruff, 4 Common Sandpiper, 160 Redshank, 250 Black-headed Gull, 4 LBB Gull, 11 Herring Gull, 1 GBB Gull, 6 Swallow, 9 Wheatear, and 2 Yellow Wagtail.

Pensford:

Kingfisher and Green Woodpecker of note during a dragonfly hunt.

Barrow Tanks:

10 Common Sandpiper and a Greenshank (2 Green Sandpiper here yesterday).

Blagdon Lake:

4 Little Egret around the lake and up to 36 Black-tailed Godwit.

Chew Valley Lake:

2 Egyptian Goose.

Villice:
17 Little Grebe and a Hobby catching dragonflies.

singles of Ringed Plover, Green Sandpiper, Yellow-legged Gull, a mix of 40 martins, 4 Swallow,
30 Goldfinch, and 4 Reed Bunting.

The Marsh Harrier again just before lunch, 2 Buzzard, 5  Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Stock Dove, 3 Raven, and a Chiffchaff.

Stratford:
1 Great White Egret, 3 Ringed Plover, singles of Dunlin, Greenshank and Black Tern. 

Herriott's Bridge:
On the Lake side:
4 Little Egret, singles of Great White Egret, Buzzard, Water Rail, 2 Lapwing, a mix of a dozen martins, and a Cetti's Warbler
On the Pool side:
2 Great White Egret, 3 Lapwing, 3 Ringed Plover, 1 Ruff, 4 Green Sandpiper, 1 Greenshank, and
2 Great Black-backed Gull.
