4 Feb '17 Saturday - Brent Goose

Fine and sunny but with a chilly wind.

The Waxwings are still about but a Brent Goose is arguably the most unexpected bird for our area today.

13 Waxwing (with a large audience).

Oldbury Power Station (Shepperdine end):
235 Wigeon, 170 Teal, 9 Oystercatcher, 3 Ringed Plover, 180 Lapwing, 1 Golden Plover, 8 Snipe, 46 Turnstone, 12 Curlew, 1 Little Gull, 5 Bullfinch.

Littleton Pits:
3 flyover Shoveler, Water Rail, 2 Snipe, Kingfisher, Green Woodpecker, Reed Bunting.

New Passage/Northwick/Pilning Wetland:
730 Wigeon, 17 Gadwall, 13 Shoveler, 21 Tufted Duck, 1 Little Egret, 3 Water Rail, "dozens" of Ringed Plover, 400 Lapwing, 2000 Dunlin, 520 Knot, 150 Black-tailed Godwit, 90 Redshank, 70 Curlew, Water Pipit (by 2nd sentry box), Grey Wagtail, Chiffchaff.

Severn Beach:
2 Great Crested Grebe, 7 Pintail.

Sand Point:
70 Shelduck, 60 Oystercatcher, 4 Grey Plover, 10 Curlew, 20 Dunlin, 4 Stonechat, 1 m. Dartford Warbler (opposite number 42).

Worle (Plumley Park):
10 Canada Goose over, 1 Raven, 1 Goldcrest, 4 Bullfinch, 5 Reed Bunting.

Chew Valley Lake:
3 Black-necked Grebe (East Shore), 5 ad Mediterranean Gull, 1 x 1W Yellow-legged Gull in roost, 1 x 3W lusitanius type Yellow-legged Gull on Herriott's Pool again and later in the roost (Keith Vinicombe), 1 Chiffchaff.
