10 Feb '17 Friday - Black-necked Grebe

Very cold today and dull and not very good for taking photographs (some say)

a.m. 3 Jack Snipe, p.m. 160 Wigeon, 1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel,  70 flyover Lapwing,  3 Curlew,

New Passage/Northwick:
Northwick Warth:
1,200 Dunlin, top end near Aust Warth.

Severn Beach:
8 Starling, 5 House Sparrow
Orchard Pools:
1 Tufted Duck, 3 Buzzard, 4 House Sparrow, 8 Goldfinch.
Tesco Pool:
2 Teal

Frampton Cotterell:
A pair of Little Egrets on the river Frome between Frampton Cotterell and Winterbourne. Single one seen here semi regularly for the last 2 years, first time seeing a pair. Also a pair of Kestrels hunting on the railway embankment over the Frome valley, chased off by a pair of crows.

NORTH SOMERSET:

Backwell Lake:
18 Mute Swan, 11 Canada Goose, 9 Tufted Duck, 1 Little Egret (11(at least) into roost at dusk yesterday evening), 130 Black-headed Gull. One bird with green ring J82E, photo attached. Found that it was a Norwegian bird via www. cr-birding.org . Submitted it to the Norwegian ringmarking website which showed that it was ringed near Oslo on 18/05/15. Last observed in Norway, near Oslo, on 11/06/16. 11 Common Gull, 10 Jackdaw.
