16 Oct '17 Monday - Pomarine Skua

Cloudy, dark and a bit windy in the morning. Strange, sepia light with the sun occasionally appearing as a pink eyeball in the sky. Brightened later in the day to a pleasant, if breezy, day.

Migration Watch at Battery Point, Portishead, 15 October 2017.
Very quiet. Fresh SSW and overcast most of morning, Sunny after about 1000 hrs. Tide low. Movement mostly between 0800 and 1000.

Chaffinch 12 E (first thing), 96 SW.
Goldfinch 25+ about, no obvious movement.
finch sp. 21 SSW.
Pied Wagtail 10 (poss. in from N) incl. 6 together on grass at point.

Also noted in bushes - 1 Goldcrest and 1 Reed Bunting - poss. resting migrants.

Also local birds noted (Blue, Coal and Great Tits, House Sparrows, Wood Pigeon, Green Woodpecker, Jay, Magpie, C Crow, Cormorant, Curlew, Redshank, G B-b Gull, Herring Gull, Black-h Gull.)


Out of area:
Blackdown, Mendip:
55 Dunlin, 1 Snipe feeding (this morning). Often see snipe but never seen dunlin before.
