2nd December '17 Saturday - 2 Woodcock

An overcast but mild morning after overnight rain, clearing to a nice day.  Little wind.
Not many reports today - is everyone too busy with their Christmas shopping?

New Passage/Northwick:
2 Buzzard, 1 Peregrine, Water Rail (heard), 22 Ringed Plover, 3 Knot, 180 Black-tailed Godwit, 60 Curlew, 75 Stock Dove, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Stonechat, Mistle Thrush,  30 Redwing, 2 Coal Tit.

Coalpit Heath:
Survey of ST6880:  Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Pied Wagtail, Grey Wagtail, 58+ Redwing, 28+ Fieldfare, Treecreeper, 5 Jay, 30 Starling, 15 House Sparrow, 3 Bullfinch.


NORTH SOMERSET

Portbury - Sheepway Lane and docks (publicly accessible area only):
Excellent winter survey of ST4976, 30 species with 6 new for the square, and lots of thrushes - 5 Mallard, 7 Moorhen, 29 Woodpigeon, Kingfisher, Green Woodpecker, 7 Song Thrush, 32 Blackbird, 2 Fieldfare, 16 Redwing, Goldcrest, Treecreeper, 9 House Sparrow, 68 Starling, Jay, 2 Pied Wagtail.

Clevedon-Yeo:
Several hundred Dunlin, a few Grey Plover and Redshank.  Rock Pipits.

Yatton:
Cadbury Hill:
2 GS Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Marsh Tit, 1 Nuthatch, 3 Bullfinch.

Wemberham Lane:
1 Peregrine, 2 Stonechat, 40 Chaffinch, 1 Reed Bunting.


BELOW M4 & BANES

Keynsham: (ST6567)
2 Herring Gull, 4 Woodpigeon, 2 Collared Dove, 3 Magpie, 8 Jackdaw, 5 Starling, 1 Blue Tit, 1 Great Tit, 1 Chaffinch, 6 Goldfinch, 4 House Sparrow.

Bath, Oldfield Park:
Lots of birds in the garden today including Goldfinch, Blue Great and Coal Tit, Wren, Dunnock, Blackbird, Redwing, House Sparrow, also a Song Thrush a very rare visitor to my garden. But the days highlight must be a Woodcock flying over Entry Hill Golf Course about 13.40 flying north.

5 Bewick's Swan (4 ad & a 1w) from there at Hollow Brook, 4 GWE, 3 Green & 1 Common Sandpiper, 12 Goosander Treecreeper ringed at CVRS as juv in 2014 was re-trapped there today.
