15-02-21 Monday - well-travelled Lesser Black-backed Gull

What a difference a day makes: mild and almost spring-like, with plenty of bird song. Lots of birders out today too. Bristol temperatures rose to just over 12 °C.

15-02-21 Lesser BBGull, Sea Mills (photo William Earp; map showing movements in winter 2017/18 Peter Rock)

'It’s a bird ringed at Bristol University 05/05/2016 as an adult and was GPS tagged as well. She provided quite a lot of data for two seasons until she decided to push off from the original breeding roof – possibly because her male died. We’ve seen her a few times near the university, but she didn’t download much data during 2020, but did show us where she’d been which was entirely consistent with the winter data from 2017/18 winter. From the tracking data, on 15th February 2018 she arrived at Les Sables d’Olonne and set off for Bristol on 16th, arriving on 18th February. Perhaps she’s just arrived in Bristol.'
