06-04-26 Monday

Temp 03°C to 18°C - a cold start to an otherwise nice day. Lots of sun with a light to moderate SSW round to SE wind.

I have updated the page on Peter Rock's local gull ringing program, click here to see it. He has ringed nearly 11,000 nestlings which have generated more than 90,000 sightings. The birds have travelled many millions of kilometres. Recoveries range between Tampere, Finland to The Gambia (see map below). Here’s one who has an interesting history: Black3 M:K, ringed on the old Courage Brewery in Bristol in 2006. Many records from Gloucester Landfill up until 2011 when it closed suggested that he was breeding in Gloucester, but he winters in Gafanha da Nazaré, near Aveiro in Portugal. Pete has seen him there over many years. Nowadays he expects to find him in a small part of the fishing port and he didn’t disappoint last year; Pete found him there on 31st October during the annual ring-reading trip to Portugal.
