Cryptic Puzzle 1 with answers

Sent in today - lots of Thale Cress (Arabidopsis thaliana) growing in Montpelier; this was the first plant to have its genome sequenced and is an ideal model species due to its short genome of 135 mega base pairs (for context, the human genome has c. 6469.66 mega base pairs).
