Ashton Court:
1 Buzzard, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Jay, 2 Swallow, 6 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, 2 Goldcrest, 2 Nuthatch, 1 Mistle Thrush.
Also an intriguing unidentified raptor - any ideas, anyone?
Buzzard-sized raptor flushed from mid canopy and flew across a clearing just north of the lodge at Clarken Combe, seen from above for 3-4 seconds. It flew over the grass with slow shallow beats and up into mid canopy of the opposite copse. Impression: long-winged with tapered primary tips and long-tailed with slightly convex tip. Overall colour of upper wings, head and mantle uniform mid grey-brown. Upper-tail same grey-brown but white-tinged at the base and narrow darker band at the tip with the very outer tips of the feathers white. No view of the undersides. Suspected male Honey Buzzard but the observer couldn't be sure.
