27-06-25 Friday

Temp 14°C to 28°C - overnight rain, then largely sunny, clouding over later. Very warm in the moderate W/SW wind, gusts to 23mph.

Pete Hazelwood, birder at Oldbury Power Station (OPS), and who runs the website, https://www.opsbirding.co.uk/, has written a book 'The local patch, the Ruff with the smooth', about birding at OPS. More details on his wesbite, or you can buy direct from ebay.

The water level at the reservoirs is dropping with more mud being exposed every day. Some new waders in today, so whilst it is a quiet time of year, hopefully not long til things get going again. Whilst the drought is not good for a lot of things, it does make for a possibly good few months for waders and other migrants ahead.

Being quiet also means it is a good time to submit all your records of breeding birds, things like house martin, swift and many others tend to get under reported, have a look at the Avon submission guidance here.
