12/3/16 Sunrise over Planet Chew (Brian Thompson)

12/3/16 'redhead' Smew (Dan White) 
The Chipping Sodbury bird found by Darren Pearce, present for most of the day on the small pool on the Common.
Smew is a very scarce winter duck into Avon (mainly CVL) and this one is our first of the winter.

by the Mardyke ferry, unusual location for this species
Margaret saw the bird whilst on her way to the pub for her mid-day tipple.

Oldbury Power Station:
2 Water Rail, 1 Coal Tit, 5 Skylark, 2 Grey Wagtail.

Aust Warth:
2 Stonechat.

New Passage-Northwick:
Shore & wetland: 9 Mute Swan, 10 Canada Goose, 89 Shelduck, 200 Wigeon, 3 Gadwall, 150 Teal, 30 Shoveler, 10 Tufted Duck, 3 Little Egret, 90 Oystercatcher, 300 Dunlin, 8 Curlew, 60 Redshank, 40 Turnstone, 2 Siskin.

Keynsham:
Memorial Park: 3 Buzzard, 1 Goldcrest, 15 Blackbird, 4 Redwing, 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Grey Wagtail of note.
Manor Rd Woodland: 2 Jay, 1 Raven, 1 Coal Tit, 2 Song Thrush, 60+ Redwing, 60+ Chaffinch, 16 Siskin of note.

Burnett:
Elm Farm: 5 Buzzard, 250 Woodpigeon, 2 Green Woodpecker, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Jay, 2 Raven, 4 Coal Tit, 11 Skylark, 4 Song Thrush, 100 Redwing, 2 Mistle Thrush, 100+ Chaffinch, 10+ Brambling, 100+ Linnet, 45 Yellowhammer, 2 Reed Bunting, 3 Brown Hare.
Good finch numbers due to corn feeding by the local sympathetic farmer.

2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Blagdon Lake:
27 Mute Swan, 1 Greylag Goose, 45 Canada Goose, 8 Wigeon, 21 Pochard, 6 Goldeneye, 5 Grey Heron, 3 Little Grebe, 11 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Buzzard, 1 Water Rail (Top End hide), 16 Snipe, 2 GBB Gull, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Grey Wagtail, 1 Reed Bunting.
The lake was jam-packed with anglers today.

Litton Res:
1 Mute Swan, 1 Canada Goose, 8 Tufted Duck, 5 Little Grebe, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Raven, 5 Goldcrest, 4 Long-tailed Tit.

Planet Chew:
1 flyover Curlew, 1 Kittiwake this morning (Sean Davies). Both unusual species for here.
Other stuff, 3 Scaup, 1 Peregrine (washing in a puddle at the parkland!), 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Yellow-legged Gull, 1 Kingfisher, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Nuthatch (Hollow Brook), 2 Stonechat, 3 Meadow Pipit.
