Sightings 22/8/2016

Overcast but mainly dry, wind has dropped considerably since yesterday.  Late update.

Seen at Severn Beach

Bristol, Staple Hill:
1 Great White Egret flew over 11 a.m. to east.

Marshfield - Shire Valley:
1 Little Egret, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Raven.

Newton St Loe:
2 Little Owl.

Littleton Warth:
2 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 100 BH Gull, 1 Green Woodpecker, 7 Wheatear, 40 Starling, 25 Linnet.

Aust Warth:
c. 100 Starling passing through to the south in very small groups this morning - notable migration.

New Passage/Pilning Wetlands:
Adult Gannet drifting up on the tide.  9 Little Grebe, 2 Little Egret, Egyptian Goose, 190 Canada Goose, 5 Gadwall, 100 Teal, 1 drake Wigeon, 30+ Ringed Plover, 40+ Lapwing, 120 Dunlin, 12 juv Knot, 33 Black-tailed Godwit (21 of them fresh juv islandica), 1 Whimbrel, 1 Greenshank, 110 Redshank, 2 Green Sandpiper, 21 Turnstone, 3 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Raven.

Severn Beach:
2 Storm Petrel, one exhausted and metres from the shore, midday, and a (record-breaking) single flock of 23 Shag up-river, midday, which flew off NE towards Gloucester (Paul Bowerman(they were relocated on the River Severn at Purton, Gloucestershire as a mixed flock of adults and juveniles).  Also a Peregrine, 70+ Ringed Plover, 60 Dunlin, 4 juv Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Whimbrel, 28 Turnstone, 1 Great Skua south (Dean Reeves), 2 Black Tern south, 1 Wheatear.

Blagdon Lake:
1 Wigeon (new in), aythya hybrid looking a bit like a Lesser Scaup to trap the unwaryGarganey1 Little Egret, 1 Great White Egret, 1 Black-necked Grebe (returning moulting adult?), 1 Hobby, 11 Common Sandpipers, 2 Green Sandpipers.  Full details on the WeBSPage

Villice Bay:
3 juv Garganey, 20 Little Grebe.
Heron's Green:
1 juv Yellow-legged Gull (metal-ringed, taking bread).
Stratford/Moreton:
1 eclipse m. Wigeon, 1 Gannet ("plunge-diving off Woodford on occasion, which was awesome"), 1 Great White Egret, 1 Buzzard, 4 GBB Gull, 1 Little Gull (going into 1W), 1 Arctic Tern, 2 Common Tern (ad + juv), 3 juv Black Tern, 3 Stock Dove, Kingfisher, 6 Long-tailed Tit.
Herriotts Bridge:
1 juv Water Rail, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 100+ mixed House Martins & Swallows (before 9.45am)
