29th April '17 Saturday - Cuckoos

Overcast with a chilly wind and brighter spells.

SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Oldbury Power Station:
1 Peregrine, 14 Whimbrel, 1 Bar-tailed Godwit (in summer plumage), c.20 Dunlin, 3 Curlew, 5 Oystercatcher, 1 (1W) Mediterranean Gull (the only small gull on the whole estuary), 1 fly-through Cuckoo, 1 Tree Pipit. 1 Wheatear, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 8 Reed Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat.

Littleton Wharf:
18 Shelduck, 1 Grey Heron, 1 (1W) Mediterranean Gull (presumably the same as above), 2 Sand Martin, 2 Wheatear, 2 Raven.

Littleton:
6 Swallow, 7 Reed Warbler, 1 Garden Warbler singing, 5 Blackcap, 4 Chiffchaff.

Aust Warth:
1 Whinchat, 1 Whitethroat.


NORTH SOMERSET:

Portbury Wharf:
1 Peregrine, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 9 Whimbrel (another observer noted 23!), 1 Whinchat, 1 Sedge Warbler, 4 Reed Warbler, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 10 Whitethroat, 4 Willow Warbler.

Clevedon-Yeo: (water levels dropping fast)
50+ Shelduck, 2 Teal, 3 Little Egret, 34 Oystercatcher, 2 Grey Plover, 7 Lapwing (and 5 early juvs at Dowlais), 5 Ringed Plover, 60 Whimbrel, 2+ Curlew, 10  Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Knot (non-breeding plumage seen with Redshank), 70 Dunlin, 1 Little Stint, 2 Common Sandpiper  9 Redhank, 4 Black-headed Gull, 25 LBB Gull, 80 Herring Gull, 1 Raven, 6+ Swallow, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Whitethroat, 3+ Reed Warbler, 2 Wheatear, 1 White Wagtail, 2 Rock Pipit.

RESERVOIRS:

Barrow Tanks:
3 Wheatear, 1 Yellowhammer.

Blagdon Lake:
1 Egyptian Goose, 3 Greylag Goose, 3 Common Sandpiper, lots of anglers.

Chew Valley Lake:
2 Common Sandpiper, 1 Common or Arctic Tern, 10+ Swift, 1 Cuckoo (heard), 1 Raven (with 5 big chicks nearly ready to fledge).
CVRS: 5 Sedge Warbler trapped and ringed.  Garden Warbler re-trapped.
