4th May '17 Thursday - Swifts

Overcast with sunny spells, still a cool NE wind.

The Swifts are coming!  They're everywhere today, with hundreds moving NE up the Severn shore.
Great White Egret and Short-eared Owl still around.

3 Swift.

Whitehall. Cycle Track:
Wood Warbler singing

SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Oldbury Power Station:
43 Swift, c.60 Swallow, 4 House Martin, 2 Yellow Wagtail, pair of Siskin.  2 Wood Warbler singing at South end of Lagoon 2, about 50 yards apart.

Shepperdine:
12 Greenshank.

2+ Yellow Wagtail.

Severn Beach:
5 Dunlin, 8 Bar-tailed Godwit, 5 Whimbrel. 8 BH Gull, 46 Swift (up river), 1 Yellow Wagtail.

Warmley:
4 Swift.


NORTH SOMERSET:

Portishead (Redcliffe Bay garden watch):
3:45-5:45 p.m.: 416 Swift heading NE up the Severn shore, also 25 Swallow, 3+ House Martin.

Walton Bay, Clevedon:
3-4 p.m.: 80 Swift, 25 Swallow.
5:30-7 p.,m.:  90 Swift.

Weston-Super-Mare:
Small groups of Swift moving north over the town.

Uphill:
1 Oystercatcher, 1 Short-eared Owl, 2 Swift. 3+ Swallow, 1 Stonechat, 2+ Whitethroat.

Banwell:
1 Swift.

Bristol Airport:
6 Swift.

Dolebury Warren:
2 Buzzard, 1 Stock Dove, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Swift, 2 Swallow, 3+ Blackcap, 1 Willow Warbler, 2+ Chiffchaff, 1 Raven.

A pair of Goldeneye on No. 3 were a surprise.  1 Yellow Wagtail on Barrow No. 2 Tank.

Blagdon Lake:
1 Great White Egret, 1 Egyptian Goose, 1 Cuckoo.

Chew Valley Lake:
