Not a bad day today - dry and a bit dull, but not a lot of wind.

SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Went for a wander off patch today. Up the Estuary from Shepperdine almost to Berkeley, primarily looking for nesting Little Egrets. (Andrew Middleton)
18 Little Egrets - just out of Avon, by about 200 metres, in small woodland which holds a Heronry. Undoubtedly more present but hard to count within trees. At least 5 juveniles so confirmed breeding.
Little Owl 1 - possible breeding and within Avon. 44 Shelduck - two creches, one of 2 and one of 22!
1 Lapwing, 2 Curlew, 2 Oystercatcher, 155 Black headed Gull - just one juv. 8 Grey Heron - 2 juveniles.
Waxbill (African species, possibly Black-crowned or a crossbreed) with lots of juvenile birds (Whitethroat, Chiffchaffs, Tits) in NE corner lagoon 3.

Just lucky to be there at the right time to see one of the best birds at Chew for a while. Not too many Little Gulls at this time of the year at Chew. They look lovely with the big Black W on the top of the wings and compared to a B-H Gull are so small. (Ian Stapp)
