24/08/20 Monday - Curlew Sandpipers

Fine and sunny with plenty of high cloud, becoming overcast later.  Warm with a light southerly wind.

BRISTOL

Clifton:
1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Marsh Tit (fortunately not at the same time).

SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Oldbury Power Station:
A freshly dead Gannet (on the seawall between jetty and waterworks). 
Pillhead Gout (high tide): 2 Knot, c.60 Dunlin, c.150 Ringed Plover, 2 Turnstone.
14+ Blackcap, 2 Whitethroat (Lagoon 2).
A Common Seal (out in the middle of the estuary at Shepperdine).

New Passage/Northwick:
ad. Gannet offshore, 196 Ringed Plover, 156 Dunlin, 2 juv. Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Knot, 51 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Common Sandpiper, Raven eating the dead porpoise.

Pilning Wetlands:
250+ Starling, 1 juv. Rose-coloured Starling

Sea Mills and R.Avon:
10 Mallard, 3 Lapwing, 2 Ringed Plover, 5 Common Sandpiper, 35 Redshank, 60 BH Gull, 1 Herring Gull, 4 House Martin.

Chipping Sodbury Common:
1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 GS Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker, 6 Whinchat, 5 Redstart ( 2 ad., 3 juv.), few Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff.

NORTH SOMERSET

Clevedon-Yeo, Channel View:
150 Ringed Plover, 50 Dunlin, 2 Sanderling, 6 Turnstone, 1 Whimbrel, 2 Knot, 8 Wheatear, 1 Whinchat.  (No sign of reported Golden Plover or Curlew Sandpiper)

Backwell Lake:
Mute Swans, BH Gulls and LBB Gulls.
Grey Heron, Sparrowhawk, Buzzard. Kingfisher, Cetti’s Warbler (heard four times)

Sparrowhawk over LIDL, near the Hospital.

Uphill (WeBS count):
40 Shelduck, 87 Mallard.  (2 Moorhen at Weston STW.)
104 Oystercatcher, 24 Curlew, 7 Knot, 2 Ruff, 8 Black-tailed Godwit, 35 Redshank.
180 BH Gull, 1 GBB Gull, 5 Herring Gull, 47 LBB Gull (including lots of imms.)
2 Grey Heron, 8 Little Egret.
