Sightings 10/2/16

After a quiet period, several Short-eared Owl in Avon today, possibly returning birds.

Stockwood (Bristol):
Open Space: 1 Goldcrest, 20 Fieldfare, 20 Redwing, 2 Stonechat.

Bishopsworth (Bristol):
Crox Bottom: 1 Buzzard, 3 Long-tailed Tit, 3 Song Thrush.
Vicarage Rd: 1 flyover Raven.

Wick:
Golden Valley: 1 Buzzard, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Jay, 1 Goldcrest, 2 Song Thrush, 1 Nuthatch.

Cribbs Causeway:
M5 Junction 17: 2 Stonechat.

Oldbury Power Station:
1 Black Redstart again, jetty area.
Other stuff, 2 Peregrine, 1 Treecreeper, 1 Stonechat, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Siskin.

Aust Warth:
1 Short-eared Owl, flushed by the big tide (Ed Drewitt).

New Passage-Northwick:
8 Mute Swan, 1 Greylag Goose, 40 Canada Goose, 1 db Brent Goose, 32 Shelduck, 600 Wigeon, 24 Gadwall, 30 Shoveler, 1 Little Egret, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Peregrine, 2 Water Rail, 110 Oystercatcher, 12 Lapwing, 250 Dunlin, 300 Curlew, 45 Redshank, 2 GBB Gull, 5 Water Pipit still, 2nd sentry box.

Tickenham:
3 Little Egret, 1 Kestrel, church fields.

16 Mute Swan, 12 Canada Goose, 3 Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, 170 BH Gull, 1 Kingfisher, 25 Rook, 80 mixed Fieldfare/Redwing, 2 Bullfinch.

Yatton:
Wemberham Lane: 1 Short-eared Owl (Trevor Riddle), 1 Jay, 2 Skylark, 500 Starling, 8 Meadow Pipit.

Congresbury Moor:
8 Teal, 2 Buzzard, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Treecreeper, 320 Starling, 4 Siskin.

Sand Bay:
Beach Rd: 2 Dartford Warbler still.

Bleadon:
Sewage Works: 2 Shoveler, 1 Little Egret, 1 Buzzard, 1 male Kestrel, 35 Stock Dove, 4 Skylark, 300 Starling, 40 Chaffinch, 60 Linnet, 2 Bullfinch.
Short-eared Owl: 1 flushed at the saltmarsh 1.45pm and another or same near the golf course 2.25-2.35pm (Bill Blake).

Uphill:
2 Short-eared Owl out and showing well this afternoon (Chris Johnson).

Axe Est:
21 Ringed Plover, 1 Sanderling, 500 Dunlin of note. Skylark singing here too.

River Chew: 1 Sparrowhawk, 6 Buzzard, 2 Green Woodpecker, 4 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Fieldfare, 2 Mistle Thrush, 3 Nuthatch, 1 Treecreeper, 1 Grey Wagtail, 3 Siskin.

Paulton:
Village surrounds: 2 Buzzard, 30 BH Gull, 2 Stock Dove, 1 Raven, 4 Goldcrest, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Treecreeper, 11 Blackbird, 6 Redwing, 10 Chaffinch, 3 Goldfinch, 2 Bullfinch.
Sewage Works: 7 Grey Wagtail, 30 Pied Wagtail.

Blagdon Lake:
Bittern: 1 opposite Top End Hide 2pm (BL birds).
3 Black-necked Grebe at Wood Bay still.

Planet Chew:
Moreton: 2 Green Sandpiper along the track to the hide.
