Sightings 17/4/16

Summary:
New birds: A Swift and 2 Garden Warbler, both at Planet Chew.
Red Kite: 1 over Clevedon this morning.
Osprey: 3 through Planet Chew during the day.
Crane: 2 reported at Portbury Dock this evening and another/same 2 birds at Clevedon in the morning plus 1 at Oldbury during the day.
Pied Flycatcher: 1 at Warmley Forest Park. About 6 birds so far this spring...exceptionally good numbers for Avon.
Blue-headed Wagtail: 1 at Northwick Warth/Pilning wetland, annoyingly like the Channel Wagtail seen earlier this week.

Newton St Loe birding: Just reached 50,000 views...please help Lauren & Wayne get to 100,000..

Marshfield:
2 Red-legged Partridge, 6 Buzzard, 100 Woodpigeon, 2 Green Woodpecker, 3 Raven, 3 Goldcrest, 10 Skylark, 25 Swallow, 30+ Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Nuthatch, 1 Treecreeper, 4 Grey Wagtail, 50 Chaffinch, 5 Greenfinch, 10 Linnet, 2 Bullfinch, 7 Yellowhammer, 1 Brown Hare.

Common: 1 Short-eared Owl out 7-8pm.

6 Canada Goose, 4 Buzzard, 2 Tawny Owl, 2 Green Woodpecker, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 7 Jay, 2 Raven, 2 Goldcrest, 7 Swallow, 6 Long-tailed Tit, 20 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 20 Blackcap, 2 Whitethroat, 1 Pied Flycatcher, 6 Chaffinch, 8 Greenfinch.

Shepperdine:
1 Crane heard (Pete Hazelwood, but not seen).
Other stuff, 35 Shelduck, 5 Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 GBB Gull, 1 Skylark, 2 Swallow, 11 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Meadow Pipit.

Oldbury Power Station:
2 Short-eared Owl (saltmarsh), 5 Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Whitethroat, 1 Tree Pipit, 5 Redpoll.

Ringing Report: 138 birds processed (over 3 sessions).
Sunday 17th: 1 Grasshopper Warbler, 13 Redpoll.
Thurs 14th: 1 Redstart.
Other highlights, 7 Chiffchaff, 7 Blackcap, 1 Reed Warbler, 2 Linnet.

New Passage-Northwick:
1 Blue-headed Wagtail (2nd sentry box area), similar to the Channel Wagtail recently.

Severn Beach:
1 Little Egret, 2 Whimbrel, 1 Lesser Whitethroat.

Long Ashton:
Keed's Wood: 1 Marsh Tit, 1 Blackcap, 1 Mistle Thrush, dawn chorus stuff.

Portbury Dock:
2 flyover Crane to north 5.30pm (Frank Hawkins). One appeared to have an injured leg.

Portbury Wharf:
Pools: the White-fronted Goose still present.

Other stuff, 2 Wigeon, 2 Common Sandpiper, 1 Cuckoo, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Wheatear.

Portishead:
East Wood: 1 Treecreeper this morning.
Slade Rd: 1 Cetti's Warbler, Adlington House. Singing in scrub nearby, but quite an urban area for this species.

Clevedon coast:
2 Crane reported flying to south at the coast this morning (per Pete Dommett).
Town: 1 flyover Red Kite (Jim Payne).
Wain's Hill: 1 Tree Pipit, 1 Yellowhammer.
Dowlais: 3 Little Ringed Plover, 6 Ringed Plover, 4 Dunlin.

Sand Pt:
7 Whimbrel, 7 Swallow, 1 House Martin, 20 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 5 Blackcap, 5 Whitethroat, 1 Redstart, 3 Stonechat, 1 Tree Pipit.

W-s-M:
Worlebury Hill: 2 Whimbrel, 1 Sand Martin, 4 Swallow, 4 Chiffchaff, 4 Blackcap, 1 Weasel.

Keynsham:
Old Fry's site: 2 Raven, on pylons.
